Repo rate hits 7.25% on year-end volatility
The cost of borrowing overnight cash in the US Treasury repo market popped 147% from the open on December 31 to an intraday high of 7.25% – an “extraordinary” move that some blame on the US government’s decision to issue $51 billion of debt on the last trading day of the year. The general collateral (GC) repo rate closed at 4%, up 107 basis points on the day. “Forward rates a few days ahead of the turn were indicating 285bp, but on December 31 the markets opened around 3% and peaked at 7.25%,”
ICE’s Bakkt completes $182 million funding round
Bakkt, the cryprocurrency exchange and platform project from Intercontinental Exchange, has raised $182 million from its first funding round. The funds were raised through a consortium of 12 organisations, comprising Boston Consulting Group, CMT Digital, Eagle Seven, Galaxy Digital, Goldfinch Partners, Alan Howard, Horizons Ventures, Intercontinental Exchange, Microsoft’s venture capital arm, M12, Pantera Capital, PayU, the FinTech arm of Naspers, and Protocol Ventures.
Euronext raises stake in Oslo Børs VPS to support full acquisition offer
Euronext has increased its stake in Norwegian stock exchange and national CSD operator, Oslo Børs VPS, from 49.6% to 50.6%. The move is a precursor to a full acquisition bid from Euronext, valued at NOK 6.24 billion (625m), comprising an all-cash offer for the outstanding shares in Oslo Børs VPS, at NOK 145 per share. In a statement from Euronext, should a bid for Oslo Børs VPS be accepted, the pan-European stock exchange operator “would be fully committed to support the development of Oslo Børs VPS and of the broader Norwegian financial ecosystem.”
TradingScreen’s OEMS selected by Agilon Capital
Hedge fund Agilon Capital has confirmed it will use TradingScreen’s (TS) order and execution management system (OEMS) for fixed income. The fund specialises in long/short corporate credit strategies, and confirmed it will use TradeSmart to manage their activity across fixed income, including IG corporates, CDS, treasuries, and futures. TradingScreen was awarded EMS innovation of the year at The TRADE’s recent Leaders in Trading awards in London.
